CMP 20th Anniversary

Welcome to 2021-2022 school year.  This year marks a momentous milestone for CMP, our 20th Anniversary!

On Wednesday, August 4, 2021, CMP kicked off the celebration with a ‘Founder’s Panel”.  The CMP-Community had a chance to hear from the four individuals who started CMP twenty years ago on how CMP came into existence, the challenges they faced along the way, and what they are most proud of about CMP twenty years later.  It was an inspiring event.

Please follow the link to view the recording of the “Founder’s Panel”.

Many thanks to Norman Lorenz, Deanna Gardner, Marion MacGillivray, and Keith Alpaugh.

Principal’s Message

Dear CMP Orangevale Families:

Please keep in mind that Monday is a non-instructional day. The school office is open if you have a need to call. All students and teachers get to enjoy a three day weekend! Distance Learning will resume on Tuesday, October 13th.

This past Tuesday we had our October Campus Advisory Council meeting (CAC). Thank you to the many community members who attended. I have attached the notes from our meeting to this post.

Please join our superintendent, Brett Barley, and the leadership teams from the San Juan Campuses for a Parent Information Session on Wednesday, October 14th from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

The CMP Governing Board recently approved an updated CMP Re-Opening plan, and we would like to share some of the details of the plan as well as answer some of the Frequently Asked Questions we have been receiving.

You should have received a Learning Model Declaration Form from ParentSquare. While the decision for choosing between Hybrid or Distance Learning may be easy for some families, we know that it can be a difficult decision for others. During the Parent Information Session, we hope to provide information to assist in you making an informed decision for your child.

Greetings CMP Orangevale Families:

Thank you to all the community members who attended our Campus Advisory Council meeting on Tuesday. We appreciate the efforts of members of our community to plan "virtual fundraisers" this year. We have many expenses related to Distance Learning that we would like to offset with fundraising dollars. Our K/1 teachers are interested in purchasing ELMO document cameras for their live lesssons. Our first fundraiser will be a Chipotle Restaurant Night - take out only!

Chipotle Fundraiser for CMP Orangevale

Wednesday, September 23  4:00 – 8:00pm

5223 Hazel Ave, Fair Oaks, CA 95628, USA

In these first weeks of school the teachers have been presenting lessons from what we as Montessorians call, “Cosmic Education”.  The intent of these lessons is to tell the story of the interconnectedness of all things in our world. In the K/1 classrooms the lessons have focused on experiences with nature and the use of the sensorial materials. These experiences teach the children to refine their senses and help them understand their world.

CMP COVID-19 Update - All Campuses Closure Extended

Dear CMP Community:

Today, we are writing to update you on the anticipated length of our closure as well as to provide an update on our current efforts to meet the academic and social and emotional needs of our students.

CMP continues to carefully monitor the recommendations and directives issued by local, state, and federal leaders. On Wednesday, Sacramento County issued a Public Health Order directing all residents to stay at home, unless they are providing or accessing essential services.  Yesterday, the Governor issued a “Stay at Home” order for all of California.

As a result of these orders, all CMP schools will remain closed at least through April 20th.  The CMP Board will meet on April 20th to decide on any potential closure extensions.

CMP COVID 19 (Coronavirus) Update - New Guidance from Department of Public Health and Department of Education

Dear CMP Community,

We want to keep you updated and informed on CMP’s response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) which we have been monitoring all weekend.

At around 12pm on Saturday we learned that Elk Grove Unified School District would be closing school next week.  In our message to the CMP Community on 2/27/20 we indicated that CMP would be following the lead of our authorizing districts and following guidance from public health agencies on our response to COVID-19. As a result, when Elk Grove Unified School district announced it was canceling school this week we also canceled school at our two Elk Grove sites for Monday and Tuesday.

All other sites (Capitol, American River, Carmichael, Orangevale, and Shingle Springs) remain open this week.

Dear CMP Orangevale Parents & Community Members,

Students playing basketball.

On Monday and Wednesday, our basketball teams played at the Carmichael and Elk Grove Campuses. We are so proud of their excellent team spirit and positive attitude. They are all heart! Thank you to our coaches, Ms. Acxa, Mr. Dean, Mr. Randy and Mr. Tom for their love and support of our students!

Mr. Brett Barley, our superintendent, and all of the CMP principals met for three days of intensive planning this week. We were hard at work on staffing, recruitment and budgeting for the 2020-2021 school year. I thank our CMP Orangevale team for all of their hard work and dedication to our students.

Next week we have an Early Release Day on Wednesday. Our teachers will be working on scoring the CAASPP English Language Arts Interim assessments. The results will help teachers in planning instruction. The Interim assessments will also give our teachers an indication of how well our students will perform on the CAASPP summative assessment that they will take in April.

Dear CMP Orangevale Parents & Community Members,

Next week our 3rd-8th grade students will be taking a practice summative assessment on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We are taking this time to practice because at the end of each school year, students in California in grade 3 through 8 are required take statewide assessments, also known as summative assessments.

These tests are called summative because they test the sum of what your child learned during the school year. The umbrella term we use to talk about the summative assessments our students take is CAASPP which stands for the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress.

Dear CMP Orangevale Parents & Community Members,

We are happy to report that we see a positive growth trend schoolwide on the i-Ready English Language Arts and Math Diagnostics that each student completed last week. On Wednesday, we met as a team to review our data and make decisions about next lessons for students. i-Ready is an online program for reading and mathematics that CMP is implementing as a supplement to our Montessori curriculum. i-Ready Diagnostics help your child’s teacher determine your child’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year.

Orangevale Middle School Adventures ~ The Special Student Experiences of the Montessori Middle School Program

Article by Middle School Teacher, Jen Foxx-Smith

In Maria Montessori’s writing about adolescent education, she wrote passionately about the importance of getting the emerging adulthood soul out into the world to experience learning new things, to take care of oneself, and to see new sights.  During the Orientation Cycle and Cycle One this school year we have been doing just that with two Northern California adventures.

New CMP Owl Post 10-26-18

In today's CMP Owl Post:

Dr. Montessori's Character Education

“Peace Education” is a major component of Montessori’s pedagogy. In her view, education was not an end in itself, but rather the means by which global change was (and is) created. By enabling children to discover facts and wrestle with difficult situations for themselves, the Montessori Method is intended to create future human beings that are capable of tackling the world’s problems. At the same time, the emphasis on character development, care of others, care of the environment, and grace and courtesy are intended to make those future world changers into ones who will do so responsibly and compassionately.

On the International Day of Peace, this quote by Dr. Montessori reminded us that the “peace” her education system was designed to create was not simply the lack of obvious conflict, but an active and ongoing commitment to work for fairness and equity - the things that make true peace possible.

A Very Special Evening Principal’s Café

Orangevale Campus parents are invited by principal, Kim Aldridge, to join her for a great opportunity to have an open dialogue with MaryEllen Kordas.

MaryEllen’s career in Montessori education spans 40 years.  She served on the board of the American Montessori Society recently as president and served as a member of the MPPI Council (Montessori Public Policy Initiative).  In addition to that, she provides consulting services to schools, boards, and staff (MEK Consultants), and was the founding president of the board of a Montessori Charter School in Vista, California.
