A Message from the Superintendent: School Closure Update

Dear CMP Families,

Today the Governor announced that schools would remain closed until the end of the school year. I've recorded a video about what it means for CMP. If you can't view the video I've pasted the text of the video below.

Good Evening CMP Community,

Today the Governor announced that California schools would remain closed until the end of the school year.  Late yesterday we received a letter from State Superintendent Thurmond with the same message. In the letter the State Superintendent writes:

"[I]t currently appears that our students will not be able to return to school campuses before the end of the school year. This is in no way to suggest that school is over for the year, but rather we should put all efforts into strengthening our delivery of education through distance learning."

CMP COVID-19 Update - All Campuses Closure Extended

Dear CMP Community:

Today, we are writing to update you on the anticipated length of our closure as well as to provide an update on our current efforts to meet the academic and social and emotional needs of our students.

CMP continues to carefully monitor the recommendations and directives issued by local, state, and federal leaders. On Wednesday, Sacramento County issued a Public Health Order directing all residents to stay at home, unless they are providing or accessing essential services.  Yesterday, the Governor issued a “Stay at Home” order for all of California.

As a result of these orders, all CMP schools will remain closed at least through April 20th.  The CMP Board will meet on April 20th to decide on any potential closure extensions.

A Message from the Superintendent: January & February Update Part 1

Dear CMP Community,

January and February have come and gone. But not without some exciting events and activities at all CMP schools. See below for Part 1 of a photo journal of the last two months at CMP!  More to come soon!

CMP COVID 19 (Coronavirus) Update - New Guidance from Department of Public Health and Department of Education

Dear CMP Community,

We want to keep you updated and informed on CMP’s response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) which we have been monitoring all weekend.

At around 12pm on Saturday we learned that Elk Grove Unified School District would be closing school next week.  In our message to the CMP Community on 2/27/20 we indicated that CMP would be following the lead of our authorizing districts and following guidance from public health agencies on our response to COVID-19. As a result, when Elk Grove Unified School district announced it was canceling school this week we also canceled school at our two Elk Grove sites for Monday and Tuesday.

All other sites (Capitol, American River, Carmichael, Orangevale, and Shingle Springs) remain open this week.

Enrollment Image LOTTERY AND ENROLLMENT- TK/K Lottery Postponed

CMP continues to carefully monitor the recommendations and directives issued by local, state, and federal leaders.  Yesterday, the Governor issued a “Stay at Home” order for all of California.  Under this new order, we felt it best to postpone the upcoming TK/K lottery.  We will not be live streaming the lottery this coming Monday at 3:30.  We are shooting to run a lottery at the end of April, but we will need to remain flexible. Due to the rapidly evolving situation, we will continue to monitor the public health guidance and make adjustments as necessary.

You can expect to receive future communications via email and we will be updating this website.

CMP NETWORK-WIDE GOVERNING BOARD ELECTIONS 2020

CMP NETWORK-WIDE GOVERNING BOARD ELECTIONS 2020

Parent Representative – Capitol & Shingle Springs

This spring, parents and guardians of CMP students will have the chance to vote for 2 members of the CMP Governing Board.  This memo explains the role of the Governing Board, duties of Board members, and election logistics.  Parents and guardians are encouraged to run for the Board.  The Governing Board currently consists of eight members.  Because all Governing Board members are responsible to, and for, the CMP network as a whole, all CMP parents and guardians (network-wide) may vote for the parent representatives.

Prepared environment Welcome to Our Beautiful Classrooms

Classrooms are carefully prepared environments in Montessori education, designed to promote Self-Discipline, Sense of order, Contentment, Focus/Concentration, Genuine concern for others, Independence, Love of silence, Love of learning, Self-motivation, and Happiness. These are the characteristics of the “normalized child” who has their developmental needs met. Maria Montessori considered the normalization process of premier importance, laying the groundwork for a life of learning. Read more about our Prepared Environment by clicking here!

CMP T shirts WE DRESS FOR SUCCESS!

Here at CMP American River we do enforce a dress code (not a uniform policy) that promotes the comfort and safety of all students. Importantly, sneakers should be worn for PE days, sandals should be secured with a back strap and have a flat heel, and distracting branding and cartoon characters should be worn on weekends. We post a copy of our dress code on the website as well as in the campus office.

Salad bar DAILY HOT LUNCH PROGRAM WITH SAN JUAN UNIFIED

The American River campus is so thankful for our super lunch lady, Ms. Lucy, and the kid-friendly, healthy meals she provides. Favorite choices include popcorn chicken and cheesy breadsticks; and a salad bar and milk is always included. Students eat together in our cafeteria and practice grace and courtesy by observing quiet eating times, listening to announcements, and cleaning up after themselves. Students with food allergies are welcome at our allergy-sensitive tables. Please click here for information on San Juan Unified's Free/Reduced Meal Program.

Maria Montessori with children Happy Birthday Maria Montessori

Each year we celebrate the teachings and dynamic life of Maria Montessori. She was a doctor, research scientist, and educator. Her landmark philosophy recognizes that children have a natural desire to learn and that stages of development exist for which there should be corresponding prepared educational environments. Montessori education provides pathways for creation, exploration, imagination, decision making, problem solving, and healthy social relationships that lead to concrete skills in concentration, academic and life skills. PBIS logo Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at CMP

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a framework for organizing systems and practices that focus on creating a positive and supportive school culture for all.  Last year, our campus was awarded the bronze award from the California PBIS Coalition for the implementation of the PBIS process. With a common language, teacher and student buy-in and universal values of peace and unity, our school was recognized for their hard work. Our tier 1 implementation includes:

  • A common language: W.A.V.E Work Together, Act Responsibly, Value your Community and Empower yourself and others.
  • Splash Tickets which are handed out for a chance to win prizes like an extra recess, popsicle with the principal, donuts with the dean, and a "get out of the mile" pass, just to name a few.
  • A behavior matrix for teachers and students to have a clear understanding of expected behavior around the campus.

Music notes graphic Introducing Ms. Ally our Music Teacher!

Ms. Ally is now a full-time Music teacher, serving the American River Campus on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, and the CMP Orangevale Campus on Thursdays and Fridays. Previously, Ms. Ally was a lower Elementary Teacher at our Orangevale campus and a master Montessorian. Moving to a full-time Music teaching position has allowed her to shift her time and resources into providing a high-quality, Montessori music curriculum to all of the students in TK-3rd grade.  As she builds the program, she will expand to serve all grades in the future. We will welcome her at a special Principal Cafe on Monday, January 27 and hear more about our Music Program!
