CMP currently offers a comprehensive school counseling program at all school sites. The school counseling program encompasses academic, career, and social-emotional learning, and provides guidance to students and families in these areas. CMP school counselors provide proactive social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons to all students across the network through the use of Second Step Curriculum. This curriculum aligns with our Montessori Philosophy as well as our character education program and addresses many of the issues that students face today. Topics that are addressed in this curriculum include: growth mindset & goal setting, emotion management, empathy & kindness, problem solving skills, bullying prevention, among other topics. School counselors work closely with teachers, administrators, parents, and community members to help students on their journey as life-long learners. School Counseling individual and group sessions may be provided to students with social-emotional struggles that affect the student's learning. If you are concerned about your child's social-emotional wellbeing at school, please reach out to your child's teacher to discuss your concerns.

Hello! I’m April Lonero and I am CMP-American River's School Counselor. I received my bachelor's degree from San Jose State University in Social Work in 2016, after working in afterschool education for a year, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in school counseling to support students and families. I graduated with my Master’s Degree in School Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services Credential at Sacramento State (Stingers Up!) in May 2022. I started school counseling with CMP during the 2021-2022 school year. I am passionate about serving students and helping them grow in their social emotional well-being, academic skills, and career and college readiness! One of my favorite parts of being a school counselor helping students and families problem-solve and come up with new solutions and strategies to tackle problems and take on their day!

Hello! I’m Coral Dickinson and I am CMP-Carmichael’s School Counselor. I graduated from CSU Sacramento with a Master’s degree in School Counseling and a Pupil Personnel Services credential in 2017. From there, I counseled middle school students for two years at a public school in Solano County. I started school counseling with CMP during the 2019-2020 school year and have been here ever since. Something that excites me about my job and keeps me focused is knowing that I can help families end cycles or patterns that are no longer serving them by providing them with up to date information and resources as well as helping children grow into adults that can manage their emotions and handle conflicts with respect and grace.

CMP-Elk Grove School Counselor: Lisa Laffan, MA, M.Ed., PPS
Hi! My name is Lisa Laffan and I am excited to be serving as the school counselor for CMP- Elk Grove. I began my career with CMP in 2008 at the Capitol Campus as a teaching assistant and substitute teacher and transferred to the Elk Grove campus in 2011 where I served as the lead teacher in the 9-12 Onyx Classroom for 9 years. I have always had the vision that CMP would start a school counseling program and I am so honored to be a part of it. I currently hold a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, my 6-12 Montessori Certification, a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling, and have completed my Administrative Credential Eligibility Program. Hello CMP Families, my name is Stacey Cronin and I am happy to be supporting the Orangevale campus as their school counselor since 2019. I have a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University, as well as a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling from Brandman University. Throughout the course of my career, I have spent several years working in the public school system with K-12 students, and feel very strongly about supporting the mental health of children within our schools. My name is Sarah Mackey and I am excited to continue supporting the Shingle Spring campus. After graduating from UC Santa Cruz with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in education, I worked for an educational nonprofit, City Year Sacramento, to provide academic and social-emotional support. I quickly realized not only the need for school counselors, but my passion for supporting children’s academic and social-emotional development. Soon after, I graduated from CSU Sacramento in 2019 with a Master’s of Science in School Counseling with a Public Personnel Services credential.
