September 4, 2024

Dear California Montessori Project Community,

Welcome back. We are excited to be starting the 2024-2025 school year. Now that we are all back and school is in session, we are turning our attention to our search to find a new Superintendent for the network.

The Governing Board has created a Superintendent Search Ad Hoc Committee, composed of three board members.  The Director of HR and the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent are supporting this group at the Network level. This group will help facilitate the search process, along with our executive search consultant partners, Christina Greenberg and Taylor Bostock of Edgility Consulting. Edgility works with schools and nonprofit organizations across the country to help them find, support and keep high quality talent and have a particular focus on integrating the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion into their work. Christina (Edgility’s co-founder and leader of their search practice) and Taylor are both based in California and they each have two decades of experience working in and with charter schools, including on leadership searches like ours.

This month, the search committee and Edgility will be leading a process to gather input from educational partners on where our network is today - our highlights and strengths as well as our challenges - where we need to go to fulfill our aspirations, and who the next Superintendent needs to be to get us there. This input will be used to craft a candidate profile, marketing materials and the official job description, which will begin to be distributed later this fall. Once it is officially launched, we will send it out to all of you through our normal channels.

We look forward to being in touch again soon and throughout the fall and winter as this search runs its course.

Best regards,

California Montessori Project Governing Board

CMP has entered Phase 2 of the Superintendent Search Plan: Plan & Launch Community Engagement.

The first step of this Phase was to review and recommend a search firm to partner with CMP during the 2024-2025 school year for the superintendent search. During the August 12, 2024 Governing Board Meeting, the Governing Board approved the search firm Edgility.  You may view an abbreviated PowerPoint from the August 12th meeting for the Superintendent Search Ad Hoc Committees presentation

Edgility, along with the Superintendent Search Ad Hoc Committee has begun planning and preparing a robust Community Engagment Initiate to gather input from educational partners on the profile of an ideal superintendent to lead the organization.  Engagment events and activites will begin the week of September 16th and notifications will be sent out via Parent Square and this tab of the CMP Website.

If you would like to submit a comment or feedback on this topic, please do so via email to cmpgovboard@cacmp.org. For additional information please reach out to Governing Board Secretary Carrie Klagenberg at cklagenberg@cacmp.org, or 916.971.2432 ext. 100.

Welcoming Rebecca "Becky" Marsolais as Interim Superintendent for the 2024-2025 School Year!

Dear Esteemed Staff, Students, and Parents of the California Montessori Project,

The Board of Directors is thrilled to announce the appointment of Ms. Rebecca "Becky" Marsolais as Interim Superintendent for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Ms. Marsolais brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success within the California Montessori Project community. She will assume this role on July 1, 2024.

Over the past 14 years, Ms. Marsolais has served CMP in various capacities, each fostering a deep understanding of our unique school cultures, challenges, and boundless opportunities. Her journey began as a Teaching and Club M Assistant, culminating in her most recent role as Principal at the Elk Grove Campus. Her leadership at Elk Grove has demonstrably yielded impressive academic growth, a testament to her strong instructional mind.

In her own words, Ms. Marsolais expresses her enthusiasm: "I am particularly excited about the opportunity to collaborate with our talented team of educators, dedicated parents, and supportive community partners to chart the course for our future success." We at the Board share this enthusiasm and are confident that, together, we can build upon our strengths, embrace innovation, and ensure every CMP student receives the exceptional Montessori education they deserve.

As we bid farewell to outgoing Superintendent Brett Barley, who departs on June 30th to lead the Dixon Unified School District, we commend his leadership and are grateful for his contributions. We are equally fortunate to have Ms. Marsolais step forward during this transition. “Becky is one of the strongest instructional minds we have at CMP,” said Mr. Barley, “She was specifically chosen to work in Elk Grove to help turn around that campus academically and we’ve seen great academic growth there the past several years under her leadership.”

In addition to assuming the responsibilities of Superintendent, which includes implementing the current strategic plan, Ms. Marsolais will actively engage in the selection process for her successor at the Elk Grove Campus. She will also gather valuable input from the CMP community to identify the ideal candidate for the permanent Superintendent position, which will be filled in the spring of 2025. We encourage your participation in this important search – more information will be available on our website.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Ms. Marsolais as she embarks on this exciting new chapter! We are confident that her leadership, collaborative spirit, and dedication to our core values will ensure a successful and enriching school year for all.

Sincerely,

The California Montessori Project Governing Board
