Matt Taylor, Executive Director
The CMP Governing Board unanimously approved Matt Taylor as the Executive Director for the California Montessori Project, effective April 1, 2025 for a three-year term through June 30, 2028.
Matt is an experienced executive leader in educational strategy, policy, and charter school management, with over two decades of expertise in data-driven decision-making, operational leadership, and public education governance.
Matt previously served as Chief of Staff and Strategy at Gateway Community Charters, where he led transformative strategic initiatives, aligning organizational vision with sustainable growth and operational excellence. Previously, as Superintendent of River Charter Schools, he led multiple-site school operations, optimized budgets, and strengthened community partnerships to foster inclusive, high-quality learning environments. His statewide leadership roles include serving as a Commissioner on the State Board of Education’s Advisory Commission on Charter Schools, where he shapes charter school policies, and as Past President of the California Educational Research Association, where he advanced research-driven educational improvements.
Additionally, he served the community as an elected board member for 7 years on the Yolo County Board of Education. Holding a Master’s in Public Policy from Pepperdine University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the Broad Center at Yale, Matt is a strategic innovator committed to advancing equitable and high-performing educational systems.
Matt is the proud dad to 3 amazing kiddos who were charter school students throughout their educational careers.

Rebecca (Becky) Marsolais, Interim Superintendent 2024-2025
Rebecca (Becky) Marsolais has accumulated 18 years of experience in the education field. As the daughter of an educator, she spent countless hours in classrooms during her childhood and teenage years. While pursuing her Bachelor’s degree at California State University, Chico, Becky worked as a preschool and daycare teacher. In 2004, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Child Development. She continued her education at CSU, Chico, completing her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 2006.
Becky then taught in the public sector for four years in the Bay Area and Orange County before joining the California Montessori Project (CMP) in 2010. She began her journey at CMP Orangevale as a Teaching Assistant, Club Montessori Coordinator, and Administrative Assistant for two years. She eventually transitioned into a Lead Teacher position for three years. In 2012, Becky earned her Elementary 1 Montessori Teaching Certificate.
In 2015, she assumed the role of Dean of Students at the Orangevale campus. The following year, Becky earned her Master of Science in Educational Leadership and her California Administrators Credential through National University. She continued to serve as Dean of Students at both the Orangevale and Carmichael campuses for six years.
In 2021, Becky advanced to the role of principal at the Elk Grove campus. During her tenure, she successfully navigated the challenges posed by COVID-19. Under her leadership, the school made significant academic gains and reestablished a strong community and culture. For the past several years, Becky has been working on her Doctorate in Education, specializing in Organizational Leadership, which she expects to complete in the fall of 2024.
With the majority of her educational career spent at CMP, Becky is enthusiastic about leading the organization into the future. Her strong background in both Montessori and Common Core allows her to implement a layered approach that harmonizes Montessori values with Common Core demands.
