Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI)
We’re pleased to share that California Montessori Project is part of a new statewide program that helps schools maintain and expand health and wellness services and support for students. Through this program, public schools in California - including charter schools - can access sustainable funding for the mental health and student support services we already provide. CMP will be reimbursed by health insurance companies for the mental health and wellness services we provide to students.
Here’s what families need to know:
» It’s completely free for families - you will never get a bill.
» It doesn’t affect your child’s health insurance.
» It helps CMP continue wellness programs for all students.
» Your child’s information is safe and will only be used for billing.
To participate, we just need two things from parents/guardians:
1) Up-to-date health insurance information
2) Permission in the form of a signed consent
The permission forms are digital and will be sent via a ParentSquare permission form annually. There are also hard copy versions available; if you need one, please contact your campus' school counselor or studentservices@cacmp.org.

Q: What is the CYBHI program?
A: The CYBHI is a program where public schools in California, including charter schools, can get reimbursed by health insurance companies for the mental health and wellness services they already provide to students.
Q: If I provide permission and insurance information, will I be billed or charged anything?
A: No, you will not be charged. There are no co-pays, no deductibles, and no bills. California state law protects families from being charged for these services.
Q: Will sharing my insurance information lead to any costs or affect my child's coverage?
A: No, state law prohibits health plans from passing any cost to families. There will be no co-payments, no deductibles, and no out-of-pocket expenses for services provided under this program. Sharing your insurance information will NOT change your benefits or affect your child's coverage in any way. It is ONLY used so the district can request reimbursement.
Q: What if my child doesn't have insurance?
A: Your child will still receive all school based wellness and mental health supports they qualify for, that you give permission for, at no cost. If you'd like help getting coverage, please reach out to studentservices@cacmp.org for support.
Q: If I sign this, does that mean my student will receive counseling sessions?
A: No. If your child qualifies for regular school counseling sessions, you will still be notified at the time they qualify and have the opportunity to accept or decline these services.
Q: Is my information safe?
A: Yes, your information is safe. You information is collected through the secure Healthy Campus portal and protected by FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which are strict federal privacy laws. Your information is only used for billing as allowed by law.
Q: How do I share my information?
A: You will receive a notification from ParentSquare that will allow you to enter information and give permission. This will happen annually. Additionally, you can request a hard copy version of the consent by contacting your campus' school counselor or studentservices@cacmp.org. Lastly, a provider such as a school counselor may reach out to you directly with a unique link to Healthy Campus, allowing you to e-sign directly into the platform where we keep updated permission information. Any one of these methods will suffice, and it only takes a few minutes to complete. It helps CMP greatly!
Q: What is Healthy Campus?
A: Healthy Campus is CMP's secure electronic records partner. It helps us collect insurance information and consent for the CYBHI program in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA.
Q: Do I have to participate?
A: No, participation is a choice. Your child will still receive services that you have given permission for at no cost just like in year's past even if you choose not to participate. However, without your consent, the district cannot receive reimbursement.
Q: What types of reimbursable services will CMP provide?
A: CMP will provide preventative classroom lessons (e.g. how to cope with worry), school counseling sessions, crisis intervention, case management, and more.
Q: What if my student doesn't see the school counselor? Will signing still make a difference?
A: Yes, signing the consent will still help CMP because your child's classroom will receive broad, preventative focused lessons (e.g. how to cope with worry) just like in year's past. These lessons have been done by CMP for years, and now are reimbursable.
Q: What will CMP use the reimbursement funds for?
A: CMP will use the reimbursed funds to sustain and expand mental health and wellness programming for students. This includes funding positions and expanding positions such as school counselors, school psychologists, school nurses, and other health and wellness staff.
